Why Participate?
Founded in 1987, Need in Deed helps 3rd-8th grade students in Philadelphia public schools develop their academic, social and emotional skills. Students engage in a yearlong process of active problem-solving around a social issue in their community.
Need in Deed supports classroom teachers in the School District of Philadelphia who join our Teacher Network and voluntarily implement our service-learning framework into their classrooms. We collaborate with representatives of the city's vast network of public agencies and private organizations who serve as community partners throughout the project process.
Funds raised through Need in Deed's 5K will help ensure that more than 3,900 students and 150 teachers in 63 Philadelphia public schools experience the transformative power of service-learning.
